Old Town Celebration

Well, Day of the Dead has become "Week of  the Dead" around here.  Yesterday, we went down to Old Town, San Diego, to take part in the celebration there.  Old Town is the oldest settled area in San Diego, and the site of the first European settlement in California.

Gail, in the spirit!

We had plenty of time, so we took a tour.  These were our tour guides.  They carried on a very funny banter, exchanging insults, in the process of educating us.

The man with the guitar seemed to be a member of the tour guides, but never spoke, played music, or seemed to be noticed by our two leaders.

There was music in this quiet area between old buildings.

Nick, this reminded us of  the card you made for us last year.

The event concluded with a procession of thousands, including us, carrying candles to the old cemetery where there was more music and historic impersonations.  The immense crowd was very mellow - an amzing event for all!
