Beaver Returns

The suspected beaver on the cam from earlier this month showed up again. This time the cam shows a clear view of its tail, and it definitely looks like a beaver, not a nutria.

Yard and Beach

Working in the yard and walking on the beach are our main activities while under house arrest.  We also are pretty religious about daily hikes from the house up the nearby forest service roads.  Below are some pictures of the yard as it progresses through spring, some beach photos, and a few deviations.  Not shown are the hours of weed and vine whacking to maintain our network of trails.

The bullfrogs are doing well in our fish pond, but I think we only have two fish.

We did do an 8 mile loop up Cummins Creek Trail connecting to Gwynn Creek Trail.  We didn't see another soul the whole time.  Our lunch spot on an overlook with lupine in the foreground.

 The view from the overlook.

We're in lettuce heaven right now!

This Bald Eagle was standing at water's edge for quite some time.

This small rock was totally covered.

This area has been making a great recovery from the period of sea star wasting disease that plagued the West Coast the past few years.

Daisy enjoys wading into the tidepools.  We've been taking advantage of the minus tides and good weather the past few days.

Beautiful Rock Creek where it passes under the 101 before running into the sea.

We had a bobcat for a couple nights on our StealthCam.

Jerry

It was Jerry's birthday this week, and he shared a few pictures of a collage that Wanda surprised him with.  The collage is composed of some of Jerry's musical highlights going back as far as the 60's.  Knowing Jerry is as close to rock and roll fame as I'll ever get.  We sure miss our former Carlsbad neighbors.. Happy Birthday, Jer!

Peek-a-boo Eagle

I'm not sure what this juvenile Bald Eagle was up to, but I was surprised when I checked my two cameras today.  It seems interested in the camera, though.

Begonia to Beaver

Spring is busting out here at River Song. Below are a few pics taken as I did chores around the house, plus a surprise visitor!

Yummy D joining us for happy hour on the back deck.  This past week had beautiful weather with a couple days well into the 80's.

A place down the road sells eggs for $4.00 a dozen from their mixed flock.  Fresh and festive!

I love the color of the flowers on this azalea/rhododendron bush.

 A begonia, I believe.

Iris plants are taking their turn to show off.

Gail's she shed has this awesome wisteria.

My version of a man cave is starting to produce produce!

When I checked the trail cam down by the river yesterday, I was surprised to see this creature.  I'm leaning towards beaver, but it could also be a nutria.  In some frames the tail looks flattened and wide like a beaver, and in other frames it seems rounder like a nutria.  Compared to raccoons I've captured on camera at this spot, it seems larger.  Let me know if you have an opinion on this one.
