This and That - April

The swallows have returned. Three Violet-green Swallows followed me one morning into the greenhouse.  They flew out on their own a few minutes later.

We have a about 5 American Bullfrogs living in our fish pond. We call the big one Brutus. He (?) is usually in this spot on sunny days.  I mistakenly thought these were Oregon Spotted Frogs, but was set straight on iNaturalist.

Rich, of Rich and Catherine down the road at Forks Farm, found a bunch of old birdhouses, cleaned them up, painted them, and put them out for sale on the road for $5.00 each.  We bought five.

We're hoping some swallows build nests in them.

Gail bought a new bike, so that now we both have light and reliable bikes for more serious rides.

We were invited to our first party, Saturday a week ago.  There were folks from all up and down the road. It was Rich's birthday potluck.  We met some interesting people, including a blacksmith, an international nature tour guide, the managing editor of the Newport News Times and his family, and others.

Love those frog faces!
Can those birdhouses really house more than one nest, with the multiple holes?

Each hole is a separate compartment, but we were told that swallows will only occupy one of the compartments. Martins will occupy multiple compartments, but I'm not sure about other birds. The frogs always make me smile!
