Rattlesnakes Coming Out

With a few days of warming weather, I thought I might see a snake today if I went hiking at Calavera midday.  Sure enough, I saw a Red Diamond Rattlesnake between the cave and the quarry, and then a little while later, a baby Southern Pacific where the stream is crossing the road.

Red Diamond Rattlesnake about 3 1/2 to 4 ft. long.

Southern Pacific Rattlesnake about 14" long.

They always come out when you're nearby to put on a show for you.
