Trestles Surf Contest

Saturday, we rode our bikes up to Trestles, a world class surf break, for a major surf event.

The eventual winner was Brazilian Felipe Toledo, touted to be the world's best in smaller waves.  He won $40,000 for his performance.

There was a big Saturday crowd of enthusiasts.  Those are the judging and press towers.

Gail didn't expect the event to be such a big deal.  Actually' we were both surprised.

Local surf star, Kalohe Andino, gave away the two halves of his broken board to young fans. We had a pleasant raptor filled bike ride back to our van parked about 8 miles to the south.

Gail spotted this pretty caterpillar on the ride back through Camp Pendleton.

I think that's a tussock caterpillar. We had them in St. Louis. I'd know them anywhere!
