Birthday Weekend Fun

Gail's birthday was Sunday, so we dedicated the past weekend to fun and celebration.

I made a decadent chocolate cake with a vampire mouth dripping blood.  Why?  Gail loves all things vampire!

Here we are showing off our new tattoos and shower ring piercings.  Normal birthday fun, I would say.  Sunday, we took a bike ride over to Oceanside for lunch and a visit to the Oceanside Museum of Art.  On the way to the museum after lunch at Oceanside Harbor's Jolly Roger, we stumbled onto a surf contest, the Bud Lite Lime series event with a purse of  $125,000.  We were in time to see the finals, where aerial maneuvers were the "thing" in the 2-4 foot surf.

The women's winner was a local, Kyla Langen.  To her right is two time world champ Lisa Andersen in red, and Keala Kennelly in blue, who is a gutsy big wave surfer and HBO co-star in "John from Cincinnati".  She also starred as herself in "Blue Crush".

The men's winners took the podium next.  This is Bobby Martinez and one of his dogs wearing his jersey.  Bobby is from Santa Barbara, went to Santa Barbara High, and was a highly ranked pro surfer until he dropped out after a very controversial "blowout".  At this event, everyone was all smiles, though.

The winner was 21 year old Dylan Goodale from Hawaii.  He was ecstatic!

Oceanside looking pretty empty for a Sunday afternoon.  It has actually been cool and overcast for about 3 weeks, now, on most days.  June gloom!

Those trusty yellow Schwinns again!

Next, we peddled off to the Oceanside Museum of Art for the Lowrider Art Exhibit.

A lowrider trike!

A lowrider peddle car!

The interior of the lowrider featured on the opening credits of "Chico and the Man".

Another Chevy, this one with an Aztec theme, I think.

Large wall art.

Painting.

My favorite car was this '39 Chevy.

An interesting family portrait in this painting.
Well, we had a fun weekend that even worked in some exercise - helpful in dealing with all the cake and ice cream!
