More Fall Colors

The rains have brought up the ever amazing variety of mushrooms.  One exception is the scarcity of chanterelles, one of our go-to favorites.  Maybe the "chanties" will be popping by this weekend.  This is a welcome time of the year; not too cold, no forest fire danger, everything recharging with water, yard work winding down, and the fun of treasure hunting mushrooms.

Great Friends Visit

Jerry and Wanda, our neighbors from Carlsbad, came to Yachats from September 12 -19.  We had daily get togethers poking around the coast, dining, hiking, and hanging out.

We had a fun time at Depoe Bay, site of the infamous fishing trip in the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.

Depoe Bay is the best place to observe Gray Whales during the summer in Oregon.  This ranger was informative and entertaining. We could see whales behind him as he spoke.

That is actually not Gail's goatee, but a segment of baleen from a Gray whale.  An average Gray Whale eats about 2,000 pounds of tiny organisms per day that it filters from the ocean floor with its baleen.

Lunch at a Thai restaurant led to some goofy behavior.

Wanda and Jerry prepared a delicious salmon dinner at their condo.  It was a treat to have them make the journey to spend time with us.

Bra-Va

Below, are photos Gail took at a bra decorating event she and Wanda went to in Florence.  Bra-Va was an event to raise money for breast cancer research, and the decorated bras were to be auctioned off.

Jerry and I hung out on our deck for the afternoon solving the world's problems.  Apparently, we didn't get too far.
