Trail Cam Highlights

Below are some of the more interesting trail cam photos from the past couple months.

This cougar came by our cam at First Beach at 8:01 this morning.  I came along with Daisy an hour later and wondered why she was engrossed in sniffing all around.  When I checked the camera I knew why!

A different kind of kitty cat at the same place.  We don't know where it came from and only have seen it on the trail cams coming through at night.

The mystery cat as seen through a tiny spider and web on the lens of our other trail cam.

A bobcat coming down our lower driveway.

There is a colony of Mountain Beavers not far from our house. They are the world's most primitive rodent, and are not true beavers.  They are the only living members of their genus and family, and are about the size of a small cat.  They live in a vast network of burrows with multiple entrances.  They are fond of eating sword ferns, which are plentiful around here.  They also gnaw on bark and trees.  Around here they are called boomers, and the nearby Toledo High football team is called "The Boomers".

This domestic rabbit showed up on our driveway and stayed in our yard for 5 weeks.  None of our neighbors knew who it belonged to, and social media posts didn't turn up an owner, either.  I was in the process of arranging placement for him through a small animal rescue in Eugene when one morning we found him injured.  We tried to nurse him to health for a few days but eventually had to have him euthanized by a vet.  We had named him Zorro and gave him rabbit food and water every day.
